Glenn Beck Program June 27, 2011

In studio audience

Social Unrest

  • Glenn showed video of flash mobs stealing from stores.
    • Chicago – Walgreen’s – 50 teens.
    • Pennsylvania – Sears – 40 teens.
    • Glenn discussed Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals strategy of overwhelming the system and suggested that Saul would be proud of the youngsters using social media to accomplish their planning and coordination.
    • Philadelphia – Downtown attacks on pedestrians – 30-40 teens.
    • Washington, D.C. - Altercation at a Caribbean Music Concert
      • Glenn also discussed the teen unemployment rate, currently at 25%.
      • He quoted Francis Fox-Piven…

“So where are the angry crowds, the demonstrations, sit-ins and unruly mobs?”

        • If nothing is done, it will only get worse and we will look like Europe.
          • In the 1880s, the elites in this country decided we needed to be more like Europe.
            • Glenn showed a split screen showed demonstrations in four cities across Europe.
            • Europeans ran up massive debt and red tape making it impossible to do business there.
              • Italy’s youth unemployment rate is 28.5%.
              • Spain’s youth unemployment rate is 44%, 21% overall.

What Democracy Looks Like Today

  • Glenn showed what democracy looks like today in Egypt with a video of people throwing objects at police cars as they drove down the street.
  • Glenn notes that we are a republic, not a democracy.
    • He suggests knowing the difference between democracy and freedom, because freedom can only come when you have responsibility.
      • But that is not where we, Europe, the Middle East and South America are headed.
        • Is anyone talking about responsibility?
        • Here, the only responsibility we are talking about is the responsibility of someone richer than you.

Muslims on Democracy

  • Glenn showed a video clip of an Egyptian cleric saying…

“I want to say the democracy is a bad idea.  We should not feel ashamed to say it.  It is a bad, backwards and retarded idea.  Among the freedoms inherent in the democratic system are freedom for women, freedom of ownership, freedom of homosexuality, personal freedom, freedom of conscience and expression, freedom to disbelieve in the Creator of Heaven and Earth.”

Borders – Or the Lack Thereof

·        Glenn then showed a quote from the Muslim Brotherhood’s former spokesman saying…

“Why shouldn’t we have a country called ‘The United States of Islam’…I propose that the Arab peoples who demonstrated for the sake of revolution…take to the streets with the slogan ‘The Arab people wants to remove the borders between its countries.’ ”

o       Glenn noted that that is the same thing the socialists are saying about our border with Mexico.

o       Also, the same thing George Soros’ Open Society is saying.

§         George Soros has said over the weekend that Europe is on the verge of collapse.

·        In January, Glenn said that when Soros says there isn’t anything left, a fundamental transformation is right around the corner.

·        Soros’ ideas are more centralized control, more taxes and more control over the banks.

The Beginning of the End

·        Glenn said that the program’s final episode is this Thursday.

·        He was grateful for his time at Fox and the time the audience chose to spend with him.

Public Debt Crisis

·        Glenn noted that he read an article on www.zerohedge.com, “Presenting The (Only) Four Outcomes to the Global Public Debt Crisis”.

·        Debt Trap – You try and spend your way out.

·        Hyperinflation – You try and print your way out.

·        Austerity in Conjunction with Actual Economic Growth

·        Default – The Left is encouraging people to do this with their mortgages.

·        The option they are trying in Europe is Austerity, but without the low taxes and cutting the red tape.  That’s what our President is doing.

·        The President is looking to Spain, a failed system with 20% unemployment as a model for the U.S.

Texas

·        The President said he wasn’t an idealogue, but a pragmatist

·        If so, you would think he would be calling Texas because they are creating half the jobs.

·        Glenn showed a video clip of MSNBC anchors reacting to Texas Governor Rick Perry saying that we have to get back to the entrepreneur.

·        The anchors said they felt like an alien.

·        They noted that Texas has state debt.

·        Glenn said that a Forbes report on the debt of all states showed Texas is in the fourth best shape.

o       That level of Texas debt is one-sixth on a per capita basis of that of New York State.

o       Texas has no state income tax.

o       S&P (Standard and Poors) gave Texas an AA+ bond rating and said their economy was better than the country as a whole.

o       It has the second largest state economy, surpassing New York.

o       Texas created 237,000 jobs while California was losing 1.2 million.

o       Glenn suggested that you remember these numbers when the President talks about jobs.

§         And the fact that the economic policies in Texas are opposite the President’s policies.

Guest:  Texas Governor Rick Perry

  • Glenn asked the Governor some questions
    • And the Governor replied.
  • Can the government create jobs?
    • Government can create an environment to allow for job creation, but the government can’t create jobs.
  • What is your state legislature like?
    • They meet every other year for 140 days.
      • One significant item for business is that loser pays is a recent change in our legal system.
        • That is what makes it even more business friendly.
  • Time Magazine says you are just looting all the other states when it comes to jobs.
    • This is what our Founding Fathers had in mind with the Tenth Amendment when they had the states compete.
    • If other states come up with great ideas, we are going to snitch them and bring them back here.
    • Glenn is considering moving to Texas.
  • You tried to put limits on the TSA (pat downs) and they responded by saying they wouldn’t allow planes to fly into Texas.
    • The TSA did respond to the threat of that legislation by changing their procedures.
  • Glenn noted that TSA workers are being unionized.
    • I have a problem with Federal employees being unionized (AFL-CIO is organizing the TSA workers).
  • Where do you stand on supporting Israel?
    • Rather strongly.  They are America’s friend and a great trading partner.

Guest: Ron Paul (R-TX)

o       Glenn said that earlier in the program, he discussed getting out of the debt crisis by cutting back on spending and regulation and taxes.  Where do you stand on that?

o       I would add one thing – No one wants the needed correction to occur.  We need to allow that to happen so that the economy can reset.

o       Glenn asked if anyone in Washington is serious about the debt (and not raising the debt ceiling)?

o       They will raise the debt limit.

§         That will just encourage more spending.

o       The Fed is a facilitator for the current monetary and fiscal policy problems.

o       Is there any way to keep capitalism from becoming ugly?

o       If they (corporations) don’t get any benefits from the government, there is nothing wrong with that.  If they get benefits and inhibit ordinary people, I would call that cronyism, or trending towards fascism.

o       Where do you stand on Israel?

o       We should be friends with all countries.

Worse Flood

o       The Souris River crested at Minot, North Dakota at 1561 feet above sea level, a record.

o       But, no one has been calling for FEMA.

o       Neighbors took in neighbors.

o       The community is solving the problem locally.

What, Not Who

o       Glenn recommends reading the article “What” Not “Who” at www.jamesrobison.net.  A portion of that article reads…

“Already, many candidates and major media are moving into full swing for next year’s elections.  We must first understand what must be done before we can identify who can best help do it.  Christians, pastors, and all church leaders must totally reject the lie that ‘separation of church and state’ means people of faith must remain silent, uninformed and uninvolved.  Those who recognize truth and stand for it can turn the tide.  Our nation’s founders knew that the limits of the constitution were placed on the government, not the people or religion.  The right to stand up and support first principles is both a privilege and a responsibility.  True freedom grants citizens the right to choose and we have a responsibility to choose right.”

o       Glenn says the Left is using the lie that big government is what Christianity is all about and what our faith is about.

o       Big government is not what America is about.

Audience Question

o       What courage would you say Americans should develop?

o       Self-reliance in everything

o       Also, don’t give up.

Glenn Beck Program June 24, 2011

In studio audience.

Next Thursday is the last broadcast.

History

  • The best history book Glenn has ever read – Chris Stewart’s “7 Tipping Points That Saved the World”.  It tells the story of the following tipping points:

    1. Defeat of the Assyrians – God
    2. Victory of Greeks Over the Persians – Arrogance
    3. Constantine in Rome – Baby in the trash.
    4. Defeat of Islam in France – Line in the sand.
    5. Mongols in Eastern Europe – Horror.
    6. 1492 – No hope.  New hope.
    7. 1940 – One Man Alone – Outgunned

Guest Chris Stewart, Author “7 Tipping Points That Saved the World”  (http://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Freedom-Seven-Tipping-Points/dp/160641951X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308966084&sr=8-1 )

The Book

  • This book is a story of freedom.
  • Freedom is fragile, rare, and precious.
  • Only a tiny fraction of people has ever experienced freedom.
  • In all of history, there have been 110 billion people ever to have lived on earth.
    • Only 5 billion have experienced freedom.
    • Three billion are alive today.
    • Only 22 nations have experienced democracy.

The Stories

  • Baby in the Trash

    • It happened about the time of Christ.
    • Rome was very powerful at that time.
    • The empire did not value human life.
    • The story starts with a young Christian boy looking for food in a trash dump and finding a baby.
      • He decides to take it home.
      • This starts the Judeo-Christian value system that every life is precious.
      • At that time, babies were routinely thrown away.  Any normal Roman citizen would have ignored a crying baby in the trash dump.
    • Ultimately, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity.
      • That started the period when Christians were no longer persecuted.
      • Much of the Roman Empire converted shortly thereafter.
  • Genghis Khan
    • He used the bodies of captives as ramps to breach the walls of walled cities.
    • He conquered twice the territory of anyone else.
    • In 25 years, the Mongols conquered more territory than the Romans did in 400 years.
    • He just erased entire cities and populations.

There was a discussion about whether today is a tipping point.  Both Glenn and Chris agree and think it is.

Glenn discussed the progressive view that men learn and get better and therefore we progress.  History suggests that when men come to power, they apply tyranny to obtain and retain power and control.  The Founders knew that Man could rule himself.  Men cannot and must be restrained.

  • Defeat of the Assyrians
    • Chris’ favorite story.
    • In 700 BC, the Assyrians were one of the most brutal empires in history.
    • Assyrians wanted to defeat the Egyptians, but had to go through Judea to get there.
    • So they invaded Judea and conquered everything except Jerusalem.
      • They put Jerusalem under siege.
      • 180,000 Assyrian soldiers got sick and died.
      • The Assyrians packed up and went home.

The Future

Glenn asks the audience for a show of hands if they believe their grandchildren will live like we do today.  No one raised his or her hand!

Glenn asked if he had asked them that question five or eight years ago, would they have agreed?  About two thirds of the people there raised their hand.

Glenn said that you don’t know how good you have it until you read this book.  Also, how bad it could get.

Glenn Beck Program June 23, 2011

Oil

  • President Obama is releasing 60 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
    • Glenn thought that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was for, well, strategic reasons.
      • Like a war.
        • On second thought, that would never happen.
    • Glenn notes that if we end up with a problem, no one is going to do a Marshall Plan for us.
      • We are going to have to figure it out on our own.
  • Saudi Arabia is building up its nuclear energy capability.
    • They say it is because they are running a little low on oil.

Ben Bernanke

  • Ben Bernanke was shown in a video saying that they don’t know why the economy isn’t doing well
    • Glenn suggests that if Mr. Bernanke doesn’t know what’s wrong with the economy, he stop trying to fix it.

Hizb Ut-Tahrir

  • Hizb Ut-Tahrir is a Muslim group that hosts an annual conference.
  • Their current publication says…

“In the Muslim world we work at all levels of society to bring the Muslims back to living an Islamic way of life under the shade of the Khilafah (Caliphate).”

·        Glenn showed a video they put out which put out a call to 44 countries.

o       In the video they referenced colonialism.

o       During that segment, they showed pictures of the leaders of Great Britain, the US and of Israel.

·        Glenn asked if that wasn’t what the President and all his friends were against.

·        A high ranking Pakistani Army general was detained for ties to this group.

Anti-Israeli Calls

·        Anti-Israel calls are not coming from just the Middle East.

o       It’s happening all around the world, even in America.

§         Congresswoman Lynn Woolsy was at a Code Pink event.

·        She participated in an anti-Israeli chant while on stage and told a complimentary short story about the Code Pink member that heckled Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu when he addressed the joint session of Congress.

June 15th Conference

Video segments were shown for the following:

  • Louis Farrakhan – He said that America’s power will be broken in war.
  • Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney – She appeared on Libyan TV and discussed bringing Libyan style direct democracy to the US.
  • Brian Becker – International A.N.S.W.E.R. – showed prior video of him saying, “…violence is sometimes necessary…”
    • Glenn notes that since they view us, the US, as the oppressor, they will be using violence against us.

Gaza Freedom Flotilla News

The following news organizations will be sailing along with the Freedom Flotilla.

  • New York Times
  • CNN
  • CBS

Iranian Nukes

The Iranian President said today that he has no problem producing nukes.

Rick Santorum

Glenn introduced Rick Santorum, a GOP Presidential Candidate.  Glenn would name a topic and Senator Santorum would respond.

  • Israel
    • Essential for Jewish people and key to the US strategic interests in the Middle East.
    • We should not force Israel into any negotiation until the Palestinians agree Israel has a right to exist.
  • President Obama’s Foreign Policy
    • Our current President is something of an internationalist, working with the international community to their ends, not to the national security ends of this country or those of our allies.
  • Courage
    • The Senator talked about a Union soldier, Dr. Lawrence Chamberlain, and what he accomplished at the Battle of Gettysburg.  Dr Chamberlain led his troops in defeating a Confederate attack on the second day of the battle, even to the point of carrying out a bayonet charge when they ran out of ammunition.
    • Dr. Chamberlain spoke at an event 25 years later and discussed how people that came after those that fought there would remember what they had done that day.
    • The Senator also spoke of President Reagan’s farewell address, noting that his (Reagan’s) concern was about Americans not appreciating what America is – not understanding who we are, not being proud of what America is.
  • Education
    • The worse subject in our schools is not math and science.  It is history.
      • He talked to a college professor in Iowa.
      • The professor teaches History 101 and gives all new students a citizenship test.  The results…
        • 40% Right Answers
        • 15% Pass Rate
    • Both he and Glenn feel that a country cannot survive with its citizens knowing and understanding so little about it.
  • Change
    • There is an organized effort to change what America is.
      • If you go back and read Obama’s campaign speeches…
        • Everybody focused on the hope and change.
        • But, the first three quarters of the speeches were a condemnation of what America is.  America, not George Bush.

Constitution

  • Glenn held up a current copy of Time Magazine.
    • The cover story was “Does the US Constitution Still Matter?”  (Nah, they conclude.)
    • Glenn said the prior issue also had a dismissive article on the Constitution and the author wrote we should be more like Iceland – which is writing a new constitution on Facebook.
    • Part of the article said that we shouldn’t let the Constitution become an obstacle for the future.
  • Santorum said that that sentiment sounds like the Supreme Court.
    • That the Constitution is an impediment to bringing in international law, or what we know in our hearts to be true, etc.
  • His view of the Constitution is that it is like an owner’s manual for the country.

Questions

Santorum said he was on Glenn’s radio program six years ago when Glenn asked him 30 questions, which he had to answer only Yes, or No.  When done, he said there was a long pause and then Glenn said he could kiss the Senator in the mouth.

  • Budget Talks – Are they for real?
    • If headed by VP Biden, no.
  • Should we raise the debt ceiling?
    • Only if we get substantial spending cuts.
  • Afghanistan – The President’s Speech
    • The President had the opportunity to explain why we are there, the plan for victory, etc.
      • Instead, all he talked about was the politics of bringing people home.
    • I don’t know of a President who has started his reelection campaign this early in his first term.
  • Libya – What are we doing there?
    • I don’t know.
    • He has an obligation to go before the people to explain and he hasn’t done that.
    • If I were President, I would have to honor commitments he made to NATO and others.  I would have to live with what he has agreed to.
  • America has caused some of it’s own problems?
    • Our foreign policy should be directed towards advancing the principals America was founded on – freedom.
  • Healthcare?
    • Repeal Obamacare.
  • Greece?
    • That’s an EU problem, not ours.
  • Will Europe implode if Greece implodes?
    • The Europeans will take care of their problems.
  • The Left – Organizing with radicals, Islamists, etc.
    • They do work together.
  • Oil
    • Drill everywhere.
  • Coal
    • Absolutely.  We have, at the present rate of consumption…
      • 263 years of oil
      • 200 years of natural gas.
      • 300 years of coal
  • Man Made Global Warming
    • There is none.
  • The Fed
    • Should be focused on inflation.
  • Bailouts
    • Against them.
  • GM
    • Get our money back.
  • Can government create jobs?
    • No.
    • A recent report says that for every government job created, we lose 2 in the private sector.

Holy War

  • Glenn said that Rolling Stones has an amazing article on Michelle Bachman and her Holy War.
    • They call her crazy.
    • Lots of smears.
    • It’s on everybody who believes in God.
  • Santorum said that the one freedom from which the others come is the freedom of religion.

Time’s Constitution Article

  • Glenn said that that article listed a number of things that the Founders could not have known about (including Lady Gaga).
  • Santorum said Yes, but they knew about truth and the nature of man.
    • The Constitution was created for a virtuous people.
    • Faith provides a worldview that creates virtuous people who can, with self-restraint, allow for limited government.
      • If you don’t have self-restraint, it will have to be imposed externally.
    • We have faith in freedom.
  • Glenn – Any truth the American people can’t handle?
    • I don’t think so.
  • Glenn – Are we at a tipping point?
    • This is the most important election since 1860.
    • This election will determine if government’s job is to protect the rights given to us by God, or will government (interrupted by commercial).

Glenn Beck Program June 22, 2011

In studio audience.

Competing View of “Change”

  • Back in January, critics derided Glenn for predicting the formation of an Islamic Caliphate.
    • He held up a book, published in the US, about the Caliphate and how it could be put together.
    • He showed a portion of a video form the UK, “Our Vision for Change” supporting a Caliphate.
  • Glenn made the point that “change” may be important to America, but there is a competing vision for change and for how things are run – a worldwide Caliphate.
  • He showed a portion of a video of Louis Farrakhan saying that your time to rule is done.

Energy

  • Glenn discussed yesterday’s program devoted to energy and how the government is locking it up to keep it from use.

Children Unprepared

  • He then turned his attention to the 25 – 60 year old generations and how they turned their children over to the schools and to TV to raise them.
    • Now, the kids are going out into the world unprepared.
  • Today, we endorse an educational system that does not teach critical thinking, but passing a test.
    • This system produces only 12% of high school seniors with a grasp of their own nation’s history.
    • That system is repeated at the college level and those graduates have hundreds of thousands of dollars in college loans to repay.
  • He showed a graph of the increasing costs of education – up as much as 400% since 1941 – 1945.

Question and Answer

Glenn and the audience of college-age young adults participated in a question and answer session.  They discusses…

  • The value of a college education.
  • What do you do after college.
  • What opportunities are available.
  • Do you know what you want before you go to college.
  • You need guidance for some learning, but $50,000?
  • Interns and internships.
  • Integrity.

Anthony Irsik, Overachiever

Glenn introduced Anthony Irsik, age 11, from Alaska.

·        Anthony aimed to unite churches in his Alaska community.

·        He hosted a “Singspiration” event (www.matsusing.com)

The Original Argument

  • Josh Charles heard Glenn’s request for an updated version of the Federalist Papers.
    • He went out and did it.
    • Josh finally got the material to Glenn.
    • Glenn published it as “The Original Argument”.
  • Glenn announced on the show that the book debuted as Number One on the New York Times Book Review list.

Glenn Beck Program June 21, 2011

In studio audience.

Pseudo Green

  • On October 5th, the Energy Secretary made an announcement that the White House would have solar and hot water panels installed.
    • It has been 259 days since this announcement.
    • Glenn showed a new photo of the White House.  No solar or water heating panels were seen.

Fundraising Frenzy

  • The President spoke yesterday at a fundraiser.
    • This is the 30th fundraiser of the year for the President.
    • At this point in his term, President Bush had held three fundraisers.
    • The official transcript of the speech read, in part…

“Over the last 15 months we’ve created 2.1 million private sector jobs. [Laughter]”

-         Also –

“We have begun the process of changing how we think about energy in this country.”

      • Glenn notes that the source of electricity and the companies that produce it are now treated like enemies by the administration.

Another Big Oil Investigation

  • The FCC has launched another investigation into big oil.

“Examining whether oil companies, refiners or traders have manipulated crude-oil markets.”

      • Glenn notes that they are doing this despite the fact that they have zero evidence to support those charges.
      • Glenn suggests they look for a printing press that is printing extra dollars so that oil, which is sold for dollars, would be raised in price to match those extra dollars.
      • Also, they could find an out of control government agency that is going out of it’s way to shut down coal plants like the EPA is.

-         Their new, stricter regulations have already caused one of the country’s largest power companies, the American Electric Power to close at least five plants that will cost hundreds of jobs and $6 billion to upgrade the plants.

-         Another power plant in San Antonio will be closed as well…

“It was a decision really driven by expectations that we’re going to face more challenging environmental regulations…”

·        An executive at that plan expects more plant closures to follow suit.

Texas

·        Is creating 50% of all new jobs in the country.

·        The population is booming.

·        Power plants are struggling to keep up.

·        Has 19 coal fired power plants, more than any other state.

Coal

  • Is used to generate about half the electricity created in America.
  • Glenn challenges environmentalists to cut their electricity usage by half and lead by example.
    • He also notes that electric cars would mostly be powered by coal fired power plants.
  • It is the largest domestically produced source of energy.

US Primary Energy Sources

  • Petroleum            36.7%
  • Natural Gas            25.1%
  • Coal                 21.2%
  • Nuclear              5.5%
  • Renewable        8.2%

Petrobras

  • Is Brazil’s largest oil company.
  • The President went to Brazil and told them he wants us to be their largest customer.
  • George Soros owns a million shares of stock in Petrobras.

Guests

  • Bob Murray, CEO of Murray Energy, a coal company in Ohio
  • Deneen Berilli, Fellow with Project 21
  • Tom Berilli, Sr Fellow, National center for Public Policy Research
  • Jack Gerard, President, American Petroleum Institute
  • Ken Anderson, CEO Tri-State Generation and Transmission (electricity coop)
  • Joe Petrowski, CEO Gulf Oil

(Comments have been grouped by guest, not in the order in which they were addressed.)

Murray

  • Studies indicate that what they have done so far will cost America 1,440,000 jobs by 2020.
  • $184 billion increase in additional electricity rates by 2020.
  • Coal mining jobs number around 3,100.  But universities say they also yield 37,000 additional jobs nationally.
  • Exports of coal are at record levels.
    • China is building a new 500-megawatt coal fired plant every week.
  • Comparative Costs (Per Kilowatt Hour)
    • Coal            4 cents
    • Solar             22 cents
    • Gas (Natural) 9 – 10 cents
    • Taxpayer subsidies for wind and solar $24 per kilowatt hour

Gerard

  • The petroleum industry employs 9.2 million people.
  • We can create an additional one million jobs tapping domestic sources of oil.
  • Oil and gas companies get zero subsidies.
  • They (the administration) have identified five companies that they want to deny recovery costs associated with the production of energy.
  • We are using the fracking process now.
    • It’s regulated by the EPA.
    • It’s safe.
  • We’ve created 57,000 new jobs in Pennsylvania and West Virginia last year alone.

Anderson

  • Why not improve existing technology sources like coal.
  • People need to know the long-term cost of alternative energy schemes.

Deneen Berilli

  • The Obama administration has a command and control energy policy.
  • He wants to destroy fossil fuel industry by regulation and restricting supply while propping up renewables.

Tom Berilli

  • President Obama is a community activist.
  • Jeffery Immelt has been CEO of GE for 10 years.
    • The stock price has gone from $40 per share to $18 today.
    • They have had to settle with the SEC twice, one for cooking the books.
  • GE and several other large companies (e.g., Dupont) worked with Obama to pass Cap and Trade in the House.
  • Glenn noted that this was similar to the way FDR dealt with tire companies during the Depression.
    • He got five big companies together and allowed them to set the rules.
    • Smaller firms could not comply and survive, ultimately going out of business.
  • Progressive CEOs are as dangerous as progressive politicians.

Petrowski

  • There are 165,000 gas stations in the US.
    • 58% are owned by single site operators.
    • 75% are small businesses that own less than 5 units.
